Donating badly needed desk and chairs and for the dormitory beds to Chattring Junior Highschool
Receiving subsidy from The Peace Stone Foundation in Japan
Because of lack of desks 4students have to share one desk.

Chattring prefecture is vaster than Kyoto prefecture but there is only one Junior highschool there. Until recently most of the farmer children from the various villages inside this prefecture didn`t visit junior highschool because of financial problems or just because they haven`t even visited the primary school. Only children from the nearby villages and of course the staff children who are living in Chattring town went to junior highschool. Now these days more and more children from remote villages are entering junior highschool, therefore the dormitory became overcrowded and there were not enough beds available. There were also not enough desks and chairs in the classrooms, therefore the students had to share the desks with 3 to 4 other students. The classrooms became also overcrowded and rooms were turned into provisory classrooms with neither desks nor chairs.
As not many farmer children did visit the junior higschool until recently, the authorities tried in many ways to get the children into junior highschool,so now many of the farmer children who have graduated primary school continue their studies and those who `s parents can`t afford it ,the Nihon Kham Kikin is finding them sponsors who are financing their studies. The Chattring authorities are very pleased to see their children go to junior highschool but then new problems turned up. Because of the growing number of children a shortage of desks, chairs and beds appeared and we were approached by the authorities for help. We promised to do what we could for the children, but as we had just financed a new primary school in a remote place of Chattring we didn`t have enough funds for this new project. Then suddenly we received a letter from The Peace Stone Foundation in Japan in which they acknowledged, that our porject has been selected on 22nd February 2003 and that they will give us a subsidity of 1.500.000\.We were delighted about this news,as we were able to donate the remaining 550.000\ to the school for the purchase of the school furniture. We are exptremely grateful to the timely help of The Peace Stone Foundation.Without their help the students would still have to share their desks with a few other students and they also would have to sleep on the floor until we were able to get the needed funds together.
From September 2004 on 9 schoolyears has become suddenly law, therefore more and more children will enter junior highschool. In September 2003 200 children entered the junior highschool and from next year on more and more children will come, therefore Chattring Junior highschool is building new schoolbuildings as well as dormitories as children from remote places have to stay at the dormitory. The donated 36o desks and chairs will be very useful, but as over 800 children will atend this school from next year on, the desks will be shared by two students. The donated beds are made out of wood. The children have to bring their own mattresses, kilts etc when entering school. The donated desks, chairs and beds will be used by more students than actually foreseen. The local TV station broadcasted the donation by the Peace Stone Foundation,Japan on their news for several days.
